Background

Justin Pippen, a 6‑foot‑3 combo guard, is the younger brother of Memphis Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. and the son of Hall‑of‑Famer Scottie Pippen. After a freshman year at Michigan, where he appeared in 28 games off the bench, Pippen transferred to Cal. In 2025‑26 he averaged 14.2 points, 4.6 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game, earning honorable‑mention All‑ACC honors.

Transfer Decision

Following Cal’s 22‑12 season and a second‑round NIT appearance, Pippen entered the NCAA transfer portal in March 2026. Agents at WME Basketball confirmed his move on April 5, and Ohio State announced the commitment the next day, marking the Buckeyes’ first portal acquisition.

What He Brings to Ohio State

Coach Jake Diebler expects Pippen to fill the void left by departing guard Devin Royal. His playmaking ability and experience in both the Big Ten and Pac‑12 should give the Buckeyes a deeper backcourt and a new scoring option ahead of the 2026‑27 campaign.
