Ontario Mills Mall Shut Down After Series of Suspicious Fires, Suspect Arrested

Ontario Mills Mall Evacuated Following Multiple Fires

On the morning of April 10, 2026, fire crews responded to a blaze at Ontario Mills Mall just before 10:30 a.m. Officers quickly discovered separate fires in several nearby stores, all deemed suspicious. The fires were extinguished without injury, but the scale of the incident prompted an immediate shutdown of the 1.3‑million‑square‑foot outlet complex.

Detective Ryan Holmes of the Ontario Police Department confirmed that 28‑year‑old Luis Javier Gallegos Jr. of Rancho Cucamonga was taken into custody later that day on arson charges. Police are still gathering statements from shoppers and employees, and detectives have urged anyone with additional information to call the department.

Mall management announced that the facility would remain closed while investigators conduct a thorough examination. No casualties were reported, and the cause of the coordinated ignitions remains under review.

The incident follows a string of unrelated disturbances at the mall earlier this year, ranging from a food‑court scuffle to a reported explosive device in a Sam’s Club, underscoring ongoing security concerns for the popular Southern California shopping destination.
