Easter 2026: Holy Land Message Meets U.S. Observances

A prophetic call from the Holy Land

Father Francesco Ielpo, Custodian of the Holy Land, told believers on April 1 that the resurrection is “a concrete fact that calls us to read history with the eyes of God.” He urged a shift from worldly judgment to a vision of forgiveness, hope and the triumph of love over violence—words that resonate amid ongoing conflict in the region.

The U.S. calendar

In the United States Easter Sunday falls on April 5, the first Sunday after the “Paschal full moon” that follows the March 21 equinox. The celebration begins with the Holy Thursday Mass on April 2, commemorating the Last Supper and launching the Triduum. The Easter Vigil on the night of April 4 ushers in the Resurrection, while the second Sunday, April 12, is observed as Divine Mercy Sunday, a devotion popularized by Saint Faustina Kowalska.

What believers can expect

Churches across the country will echo Ielpo’s message, emphasizing peace, forgiveness and a renewed reading of history through a Christ‑centered lens. Many parishes plan special services, outdoor vigils and charitable projects aimed at embodying the “victory of love without reserve” that the Holy Land custodian highlighted.
