Mets’ Rising Outfielder Tyrone Taylor Seizes Spotlight
From a Trade to a Game‑Changing Hero
The New York Mets acquired outfielder Tyrone Taylor and pitcher Adrian Houser from the Milwaukee Brewers on Dec. 20, 2023 in a deal that brought prospect Coleman Crow to Milwaukee. The move, one of the first actions of Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns after his departure from the Brewers, signaled a shift toward speed and defensive depth.
Taylor’s profile rose sharply in early April 2026. With Juan Soto sidelined by a right‑calf strain during a game against the San Francisco Giants, Taylor entered left field and, later that night, delivered a decisive pinch‑hit three‑run homer in the fifth inning of a 9‑0 Mets blowout. Reliever Clay Holmes threw seven shutout innings, and Taylor’s swing capped a five‑run inning that turned the contest into a second straight shutout of the Giants.
The performance underscores Taylor’s growing role in the Mets’ lineup and offers a glimpse of the impact Stearns hoped to achieve with the 1994‑born outfielder.
