U.S. Airlines Grapple With Thousands of Delays and Hundreds of Cancellations

American Airlines cancelled 46 flights and delayed 820, leaving passengers stranded at New York, Dallas, Los Angeles and other hubs. The surge has prompted a scramble for re‑bookings and compensation as the carrier's operational pressure peaks during the busiest travel season.

Southwest Airlines reported 16 cancellations and nearly 1,000 delays across Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and other markets, adding to a wave of frustration that began earlier this week.

Across the nation, United Airlines led the tally with 82 cancellations and 371 delays, while total disruptions reached 339 cancelled and 3,577 delayed flights in cities such as Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Orlando, Las Vegas and Philadelphia.

A proprietary algorithm tracking more than 400 airlines confirms the breadth of the problem, showing a persistent uptick in irregularities even as airlines cite staffing, scheduling and weather challenges. Travelers are advised to check real‑time status through airline apps or airport websites and to arrive early for potential hold‑ups.
