Spurs’ Rookie Phenomenon Victor Wembanyama Exits Game with Rib Contusion

Victor Wembanyama Leaves Spurs‑76ers Game with Bruised Rib

San Antonio – The San Antonio Spurs lost their burgeoning star, Victor Wembanyama, early in Monday night’s contest against the Philadelphia 76ers. A hard foul by Paul George at the 10:47 mark of the second quarter left the 7‑foot‑4 rookie clutching his left side. Medical staff confirmed a left‑rib contusion, and the 20‑year‑old was forced to sit out the second half.

Wembanyama finished with 17 points, five rebounds, one assist and three blocks, shooting 7‑of‑11. The Spurs held on for a 115‑102 victory, with backup center Luke Kornet stepping into the starting lineup.

The injury prompted a brief alarm when Wembanyama appeared to twist his arm during the collision, but he briefly returned after a timeout before the rib issue became clear. Spurs officials said he will undergo further evaluation but expect him to return after a short rest.

The incident reignites concerns about the durability of a player whose rare blend of size, range and mobility has already drawn MVP chatter in his rookie season.
