Colts and Kenny Moore II Agree to Explore Trade
Mutual Decision as Contract Year Looms
The Indianapolis Colts and veteran nickel cornerback Kenny Moore II have reached a joint decision to seek a trade before the 2026 season. Sources close to the franchise told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that both parties believe “it’s time to explore a trade,” a sentiment echoed in statements from the player’s camp.
Moore, a two‑time Pro Bowl selection who has started 111 of 132 career games, is entering the final year of a three‑year, $30 million contract. Indianapolis owes him roughly $10 million in base salary and per‑game bonuses this season, a financial burden the organization hopes to shed. The salary tag, however, may limit market interest, as any acquiring team would need to absorb the remaining money.
General manager Chris Ballard, who has spoken about making the defense “younger and faster,” indicated the move aligns with the Colts’ broader roster overhaul. The arrival of star corner Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets has further reduced Moore’s role in the secondary.
Moore’s response was brief: “It’s all good. It’s all love,” texted to ESPN reporter Stephen Holder, suggesting an amicable split.
Potential destinations mentioned by analysts include teams needing a versatile defensive back, but no concrete offers have emerged yet.
