Easter Monday 2026: Open Services, White House Egg Roll, and Push for Federal Holiday
Easter Monday, April 6, 2026
Services stay open
Unlike many countries, Easter Monday is not a federal holiday in the United States. Most banks, post offices, state motor‑vehicle offices and other government agencies operate on their regular schedules. School calendars vary; many districts remain in spring break while others resume classes.
White House tradition
The day is marked by the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn. The event, overseen by the First Lady, draws families from across the nation and occasionally features participation by the President.
A bill to change the status
Rep. Riley Moore (R‑WV) reintroduced H.R. 2951, the Easter Monday Act of 2025, in the House on April 17, 2025. The legislation would make Easter Monday a federal holiday, closing federal offices and giving workers a paid day off. The proposal is pending committee action.
